Temporary Traffic Management for Events

Following the 2023 introduction of the NZ Guide to Temporary Traffic Management, a new events-specific guide, Practice Note for Planned Public Events that Impact the Road Network has been developed to assist everyone involved in events traffic management.

This initiative recognises the unique challenges events pose compared to civil works, which the current TTM Code of Practice was primarily designed for. Events often lack defined ‘work areas’ and focus more on managing participants and their interaction with road spaces.

To address this, the new guide offers tailored guidance for different stakeholders:

  • Event Organisers: Responsibilities when hosting events that affect road corridors.

  • Road Controlling Authorities (RCAs): Insights on event interactions with road networks and necessary approvals.

  • TTM Providers: Best practices for planning, designing, and implementing traffic management solutions specific to events.
